HAVFOLKET er en vittig, storslått og hemningsløs hyllest til kystfolket og en utvidelse av fortellingen om det norske. Med humor, kløkt og poesi vil filmen skildre livet og folket langs norskekysten. Menneskene her lever tett på vær, vind og uregjerlig natur, langt fra maktens sentrum, vendt mot havet, verden og alle odds. Hva gjør dette med lynne, levesett, fellesskap og livskraft? Har havets folk en egen identitet, og er denne fortsatt levende?

 

HAVFOLKET kombinerer unik arkivfilm med kystens beste stemmer, og resultatet er et filmatisk overflødighetshorn som skildrer en kultur som veldig mange av oss er forankret i, og som alle har et forhold til.

 

LIVING BY THE SEA is a witty, spectacular and uninhibited homage to the Norwegian coastal people. These people live at the mercy of the unruly weather and sea, far from the centres of power – facing the open horizon and the world beyond. How has this affected their disposition, sense of community and way of life? Do the people of the sea have their own distinct identity, and is it still alive today? 

 

Combining unique historical archive footage with the passionate storytellers from the coast, the film is an abundant depiction of a culture anchoring many, and concerning everyone.
